Monumental Life Insurance Company has been protecting lives, providing benefits
and helping American families improve the quality of their lives since its
founding in Baltimore, Maryland in 1858. One of the country's oldest and
largest life insurers, it issued the first weekly premium "industrial" life
insurance policy in the United States in 1873.
Monumental Division targets middle-income families with annual household incomes
between $15,000 and $75,000. The division's marketing strategy is based on
building trusted financial advisor relationships and leveraging those
relationships to generate leads, referrals and sales opportunities.
Monumental Division provides traditional life insurance, supplemental health
insurance and related products and value-added services that address basic
financial security needs such as final expenses, income replacement, education
and mortgage protection and supplemental retirement income.
The division markets through three distinct distribution channels: Career
Agency, Independent Marketing Organizations (IMO) and Pre-Need.
In the Career Agency channel, approximately 2,500 employee career agents and
managers, working from approximately 175 field office locations in 22 states,
focus on growing business in their assigned geographic territories. Agents play
a critical role in delivering products and services. Their competitive
advantage is trusted advice, not price.
In the Independent Marketing Organization channel, First Command Financial
Planning (FCFP) uses approximately 500 general agents to market to military
families on or near military installations in the U.S. and abroad. The typical
agent is a former military officer and First Command policyholder.
Monumental Division also markets increasing benefit life insurance products
through funeral directors and their representatives to fund prearranged funeral
services. The company's sales representatives concentrate on independent
funeral firms and third-party marketing firms in geographic areas large enough
to support sustained sales activity.
During 2006, the division expanded its IMO focus to provide final expense
coverage for middle-income consumers. Monumental's newest IMO partners are
positioned to respond to the evolving needs of a rapidly growing senior market.
Preparing to celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2008, Monumental Life Insurance
Company is proud of its rich history, heritage and career agency tradition of
providing service in our customers' homes. In many areas of the country,
multiple generations of urban, suburban and rural families are insured and
protected by Monumental Life.
