About Atlanta
Atlanta, a cultural and economic hub, is a
dynamic place to live, work and play. It is home to many Fortune 500 companies,
professional sports teams and many outstanding tourist attractions and
amenities. A lower cost-of-living than most major metropolitan areas and a
mild climate make Atlanta an ideal place to call home. Residents have diverse choices on where to live
and play--they can choose from urban, suburban or rural areas. With an average
temperature of 71 degrees, outdoor activities like biking, running, golfing and
hiking can be enjoyed year-round.
Atlanta boasts many cultural, historical and recreational attractions. The arts scene in
Atlanta ranges from innovative music and theater productions to more traditional performing
arts like the Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Symphony. The centerpiece of the
Atlanta arts is the world-class High Museum of Art. "The High" houses permanent exhibits
of European and American paintings, African Art and Folk Art. The museum also
hosts traveling exhibitions and has hosted works from artists such as Monet,
Picasso, Van Gogh and Rodin. Historical destinations include The Martin Luther
King, Jr. Memorial, the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, Stone Mountain and
the Margaret Mitchell Museum.
Atlanta is also home to 4 major sports franchises--the Braves, Falcons, Hawks, and Thrashers--as well as an East
Coast League Hockey team, the Gwinnett Gladiators, and an Arena Football League team, The Georgia Force. If that is
not enough, Atlanta hosts such perennial events as the Bell South Classic PGA golf tournament, MBNA 500 NASCAR Nextel
Cup race and the collegiate football Peach Bowl. Atlanta has hosted other major sporting events including the PGA
Championship, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the Final Four and the 1996 Olympic Games.
